Introduction to KIKDA

The Karachi Institute of Kidney Diseases (KIKDA) was established in 2009 and remained inactive until 2016 due to a lack of funding. In 2017, following a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and KIKDA, the institute became operational. Within just three years, KIKDA emerged as the second-largest public healthcare provider in the region, following the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), offering dialysis and other vital kidney-related treatments free of charge. The institute was established with a primary goal: to address the growing prevalence of kidney diseases and complications across the population, particularly among underprivileged communities. Key Facilities and Services Offered Dialysis Unit KIKDA’s dialysis center began with limited resources but quickly expanded to meet the increasing demand for dialysis services. The center now operates 73 state-of-the-art dialysis machines, providing over 170 dialysis sessions per day across three shifts. Dialysis remains a critical life-saving procedure for patients with kidney failure, and KIKDA is committed to offering this service to those in need, free of charge.
